Description
The Estádio do Dragão is the home of FC Porto, replacing the club's long-serving Estádio das Antas a short distance away. Designed by Manuel Salgado and built for UEFA Euro 2004, it opened on 16 November 2003 with a friendly against Barcelona that Porto won 2-0 before a record 52,004 crowd; the match also gave a teenage Lionel Messi his first outing for the visitors.
The design is a restrained rectangular bowl with two open corners and a cantilevered roof over the side stands. It hosted the opening game of Euro 2004, the 2019 Nations League final and the 2021 Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City.
