Gustavo Marques came through at América Mineiro in Brazil and had a loan spell in Portugal with Torreense before joining Benfica's B team on loan in July 2023, a move made permanent later that year.

A tall and physically imposing centre-back, he was named Liga Portugal 2 defender of the month in January 2024 while playing in the second tier.

Promoted to the first-team squad with the number 76 for 2024/25, he remained a fringe option behind Benfica's established central defenders and saw very little competitive action across the season. He was loaned to Red Bull Bragantino shortly after the campaign ended.

He has not been capped by Brazil at senior level.
