Description
The current Stade Louis II opened in January 1985 in the reclaimed Fontvieille district, replacing an older ground of the same name and taking its title from Prince Louis II. Built on a raised platform with car parking and sports halls underneath, its arched façade is one of the most recognisable in European football.
It is the principality's only major stadium, so besides AS Monaco it hosts the Monaco national athletics meeting and staged the UEFA Super Cup for many years. Crowds are small by top-flight standards.
