Description
Olympiacos play in the port city of Piraeus, on a site first used for the Neo Phaliron Velodrome at the 1896 Olympic Games. The present stadium, named after the War of Independence commander Georgios Karaiskakis, was demolished and rebuilt by the club in 2003-04 in time for the Athens Olympics.
The result is a steep, enclosed 33,000-seat bowl with the crowd close to the touchlines. Olympiacos hold a long lease, and a clause preserves the right of the older tenant Ethnikos Piraeus to return.
