Olympiacos was founded in 1924 in the port city of Piraeus, next to Athens, and quickly grew into the dominant force in Greek football. The club plays at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, a compact ground of roughly 33,000 seats close to the waterfront.

No Greek side has won more: Olympiacos holds a record number of national championships, approaching fifty, together with a record tally of Greek Cups and several domestic doubles. Sequences of seven consecutive titles were achieved both between 1997 and 2003 and again in the 2010s.

European success arrived in 2024, when the team beat Fiorentina in extra time in Athens to win the UEFA Europa Conference League, becoming the first Greek club to take a major continental trophy. Nicknamed Thrylos, the Legend, the red and white side plays in Super League Greece.
