Description
A compact, old-fashioned ground in the Algarve capital of Faro and the historic home of Sporting Clube Farense. It first opened to the public in May 1923, originally named Santo Stadium after its owner Manuel Santo; Farense began playing there in 1924 and bought the ground outright in 1986.
During the 1990s its tight terraces and fierce crowd earned it the nickname 'o Inferno' among visiting sides. Farense moved out to the Estádio Algarve in 2004 but returned in 2013 after renovation, with further upgrades to lighting and pitch in 2020 bringing it back to top-flight standard at around 7,000 seats.
