Description
<p>Spartak Moscow tried to build a home of their own from 1994 onwards, having previously used five different grounds including the Luzhniki and the Olympic Stadium. Construction finally began in 2007, though the first design was rejected as too ordinary and a 2010 revision by AECOM produced the stadium as built.</p><p>The arena opened in 2014 with a capacity of 45,360 and a facade of red and white diamonds echoing the club's crest. Russia also use it for selected internationals.</p><p>It hosted the opening match of the 2018 World Cup group stage between Argentina and Iceland, along with three other group games and a round-of-16 tie.</p>
