Gerson Sousa, born in Lagos in the Algarve, came through Benfica's academy and signed his first professional contract in 2019, going on to make close to a hundred appearances for Benfica B in Liga Portugal 2.

He is a right-footed winger who usually plays on the left, cutting inside, and whose main assets are pace and dribbling.

He made his senior debut for Benfica in the Taça de Portugal in October 2024, but otherwise spent the first half of 2024/25 with the B team. In February 2025 he joined Estrela da Amadora on loan for the rest of the season, making several Primeira Liga appearances there, all from the bench.

He won the Under-20 Intercontinental Cup with Benfica in 2022 and has been capped by Portugal at youth level.
