Born in Lobito, Angola, Florentino Luís joined Benfica's academy in 2015 and made his first-team debut in February 2019. He has never played for another club permanently, though he spent 2020/21 on loan at Monaco and 2021/22 at Getafe before re-establishing himself in Lisbon.

He is a defensive midfielder in the classic mould, a tenacious single pivot who screens the back four, times his challenges well and prefers safe, simple distribution to risk. He has been compared to Claude Makélélé and N'Golo Kanté.

He remained part of the first-team squad in 2024/25 and won the Taça da Liga, the only trophy Benfica took that season, in a campaign in which they also finished second in the Primeira Liga and lost the Taça de Portugal final.

He has won two Primeira Liga titles and three Supertaças, and has represented Portugal up to under-21 level.
