Dyego Sousa was born on 14 September 1989 in Brazil and built his career in Portugal, where he later took Portuguese nationality. After early football in Brazil he played for Leixões, Tondela, Portimonense and Marítimo before two productive seasons at Braga, followed by a spell in China with Shenzhen.

Benfica signed him on 31 January 2020. He was a fringe forward at the club: at the start of 2020/21 he was in Jorge Jesus's squad but was loaned to Famalicão on 5 October 2020, and he left the club permanently soon afterwards. He did not feature for Benfica in 2021/22.

He subsequently played for Shenzhen again, then Almería and Alcorcon in Spain and Nacional in Portugal. He was capped by Portugal at senior level.
