SL Benfica - Everton Cebolinha
CompareShare CardEverton Sousa Soares, known throughout his career as Cebolinha, was born in Maracanaú in the state of Ceará. He was formed at Fortaleza before moving to Grêmio in 2012, signing permanently in 2013 and debuting for the senior side in January 2014. At Grêmio he won the 2016 Copa do Brasil and the 2017 Copa Libertadores, and he finished as joint top scorer at the 2019 Copa América, which Brazil won on home soil.
Benfica signed him on 14 August 2020 on a five-year deal for a fee in the region of €20 million. The left-sided forward never consistently reproduced his Brazilian form in Portugal, contributing modest goal and assist returns across two seasons and losing his place for long stretches of 2021/22.
With Roger Schmidt arriving for 2022/23 and the attack being reshaped, Everton returned to Brazil. Flamengo announced the transfer in mid-June 2022 and it was completed on 20 June, for a fee understood to be around €13.5 million.
