FK Bodø/Glimt was founded on 19 September 1916 in Bodø, a town above the Arctic Circle in the Norwegian county of Nordland. Originally called Fotballklubben Glimt, it adopted its present name in 1948 and plays at the small artificial-pitch Aspmyra Stadion, which holds roughly 8,000 spectators.

For most of its history the club was a modest provincial side whose main achievements were Norwegian Cup wins in 1975 and 1993. That changed dramatically under coach Kjetil Knutsen, with a first Eliteserien title in 2020 followed by further championships in 2021, 2023 and 2024, and another cup triumph in 2025.

The yellow-shirted team has also made a mark in Europe, reaching a Europa League semi-final in 2025 and qualifying for the Champions League league phase.
