About the Club
Liverpool Football Club was founded on 3 June 1892 after a dispute between Everton and John Houlding, the owner of the Anfield ground, left him with a stadium but no team. Liverpool has played at Anfield ever since and joined the Football League a year after its formation.
The club became England's dominant side in the 1970s and 1980s under Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and their successors, and it holds a joint-record haul of English league championships as well as eight FA Cups and a record number of League Cups. In Europe it is England's most successful club, with six European Cup or Champions League titles, from Rome in 1977 to the famous comeback against Milan in Istanbul in 2005 and the win over Tottenham in 2019. Liverpool competes in the Premier League.
