Description
Anfield opened in 1884 and was Everton's ground until a rent dispute in 1892 led to their departure and to the founding of Liverpool FC, who have played there ever since. The Kop, rebuilt as an all-seater in 1994, remains the ground's emblem, along with the Shankly Gates and the club anthem sung before kick-off.
Two recent projects have transformed the capacity: a new Main Stand in 2016 and an expanded Anfield Road Stand completed in 2024. Together they took the ground past 61,000 seats, among the largest in England, while keeping the stands close to the pitch in a dense residential setting.
