Description
The Estádio de São Miguel in Ponta Delgada, on the Azorean island of São Miguel, has been the home of C.D. Santa Clara since it opened on 18 April 1976. Its inaugural fixture was a friendly between Sporting CP and S.L. Benfica, won 4-3 by Sporting.
The Portugal national team has played there twice, including a 2-0 win over Egypt before a full house, and the record crowd of 15,000 came against Mozambique in August 1998. Rounds of upgrades in 2008-09 and 2013-14 renewed the floodlights, pitch and facilities, and in June 2025 UEFA granted the ground Category 3 status, allowing Santa Clara to host European ties at home rather than on the mainland.
