Pedro Miguel da Costa Álvaro is a centre-back from Sandomil, in the municipality of Seia in the Guarda district. He began playing at Seia FC at the age of nine and moved on to AD São Romão before Benfica recruited him for their academy in 2011.

Álvaro progressed through every level at the Caixa Futebol Campus, reaching the final of the 2016/17 UEFA Youth League, in which Benfica were beaten by Red Bull Salzburg. He made his professional debut for Benfica B in a goalless draw away to Leixões in the LigaPro in November 2017 and became a regular in the reserve side, interrupted by a season on loan at Belenenses SAD in 2020/21, where he gained top-flight experience.

Having failed to break into the first team, he was sold permanently to Estoril Praia on 6 July 2022, at the start of Roger Schmidt's first pre-season. He spent three seasons in the Primeira Liga with the Canaries before joining Aris Thessaloniki in 2025. He has represented Portugal from under-16 to under-21 level.
