Saico Úmaro Embaló was born in Bissau and moved to Portugal as a child, growing up in the Lisbon area. He was playing for AD Oeiras when Benfica scouted him in 2015, and he joined the club's academy at the Caixa Futebol Campus.

A small, left-footed winger comfortable on either flank, Embaló made his under-19 debut in the UEFA Youth League in September 2017 and was part of the side that reached the 2019/20 final, in which Benfica lost 3–2 to Real Madrid; he scored three goals in seven matches in that campaign. He subsequently played for Benfica B in the Segunda Liga but did not force his way into first-team contention.

On 31 August 2022, at the close of the summer window in Roger Schmidt's first season, Benfica sold him to Eredivisie club Fortuna Sittard on a four-year contract for a fee reported at around one million euros, retaining a 50 per cent sell-on clause. He made his debut in September and scored on his first start in October. He has represented Portugal from under-16 to under-21 level.
