Tiago Filipe Alves Araújo is a left-back from the Vila do Conde and Póvoa de Varzim area of northern Portugal, and should not be confused with the centre-back Tomás Araújo, who arrived at Benfica later. He entered Benfica's youth system in 2013, with a season away at Vitória de Guimarães in the middle of that spell, and worked his way up to the reserve side.

Araújo played regularly for Benfica B in the Segunda Liga and captained sides at youth level, but the depth of options at senior left-back — with Álex Grimaldo firmly established — left no realistic pathway. He spent 2021/22 on loan at Arouca, where he made his Primeira Liga debut.

On 1 July 2022, at the very start of the 2022/23 season, Benfica transferred him permanently to Estoril Praia. He spent two seasons in the Primeira Liga with the Canaries before joining Gent of the Belgian Pro League in August 2024 for a reported one million euros. He has represented Portugal at every youth level from under-16 to under-21.
