Juan Bernat came through Valencia's academy and broke into their first team in 2011, before joining Bayern Munich in 2014 and Paris Saint-Germain in 2018. He arrived at Benfica on 1 September 2023 on a season-long loan from the French club.

A small, quick left-back comfortable pushing forward as a wing-back, he was brought in to add experience and depth on the left flank.

His 2023/24 season was disrupted by injury. He made his debut on 3 October, starting a 1-0 Champions League defeat at Inter Milan, and made his first Primeira Liga appearance four days later as a substitute in a 1-0 win at Estoril. He finished the campaign with only seven appearances and returned to Paris when the loan expired.

He has won four Bundesliga titles and four Ligue 1 titles, and has been capped by Spain at senior level.
