João Neves joined Benfica's academy as a child and graduated through the B team into the first team in 2022/23, quickly becoming a regular. He won the UEFA Youth League in 2021/22 and the Primeira Liga the following season.

Slight in build but relentless, he is a central midfielder who wins the ball back, resists pressure in tight areas and moves play forward quickly.

He did not play for Benfica in 2024/25, joining Paris Saint-Germain in a major transfer in early August 2024. He became a first-team fixture in Paris immediately and ended the season with a Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Champions League treble.

He is an established Portugal international, having made his senior debut in 2023.
