Žan Jevšenak was born in Maribor on 15 May 2003 and was formed at NK Bravo in Ljubljana. Benfica signed him in October 2019 for the under-19 squad and he renewed his contract in September 2021, progressing to the under-23 team and to Benfica B.

Tall and left-footed at 1.91 m, he was used as a defensive midfielder and also as a central defender. He was the most established of Benfica's reserve-team midfielders in this period, making his B-team debut in 2021/22 and then playing 27 Liga Portugal 2 matches with a goal in 2022/23 and 24 with a goal in 2023/24, 52 appearances and two goals in all. He wore the number 74 and was never used by the first team.

Jevšenak left in July 2024 for Pisa in Italy, with loan spells at Oliveirense in Portugal in early 2025 and at Vanspor in Turkey in 2025/26, before returning to his home city with NK Maribor in July 2026. He has been capped by Slovenia at under-21 level.
