Gil Bastião Dias was formed at Sporting de Braga, where he progressed through the academy and played for the reserve side before joining AS Monaco in January 2015. Over the following six years he was loaned repeatedly, taking in Varzim, Rio Ave, Fiorentina, Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos and Granada, and made his Primeira Liga debut in August 2016.

Benfica signed him on 25 June 2021 on a five-year contract for a reported fee of around four million euros. He was used mainly as a squad option on either flank and at left-back, and scored his first goal for the club in April 2022 in the Lisbon derby against Sporting CP.

Under Roger Schmidt in 2022/23 he fell further down the order, appearing only occasionally in the opening months of the campaign. On 30 January 2023 Benfica sold him to VfB Stuttgart for roughly one million euros. He scored on his debut in the DFB-Pokal and added a Bundesliga goal against 1. FC Köln in February 2023, later moving on to Legia Warsaw on loan and then to Famalicão in July 2024.
