A product of the Seixal academy, the centre-back joined Benfica in 2016 at the age of 14, having taken his first steps at Operário Famalicão, Palmeiras FC and the Evolution Soccer Academy.

After signing his first professional contract in 2018, Araújo established himself with Benfica B from 2020 and was part of the squad that won the 2021/22 UEFA Youth League, the club's first European trophy in six decades. He made his senior debut in December 2021, aged 19, and spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Gil Vicente.

Returning to Lisbon in 2023, he extended his contract until 2028 and became a fixture in the back line, equally comfortable at centre-back or right-back and prized for his composure when building from the back. He was named the Primeira Liga's Defender of the Month for November 2024 and has been a regular starter ever since, adding the 2025 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira to his honours.

A Portugal youth international at several levels, Araújo made his senior debut for the Seleção in November 2024 and was called up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
