Roman Olehovych Yaremchuk was born in Lviv and formed at Dynamo Kyiv, joining the reserve side in 2013 and the first team two years later. He moved to Belgium with Gent in August 2017 and developed into one of the Jupiler Pro League's leading centre-forwards, peaking with 20 league goals and seven assists in the 2020/21 season.

Benfica signed him on 31 July 2021 on a five-year contract for a fee of 18.5 million euros. He scored on his league debut in August and added a brace in his following appearance, but endured a long barren run thereafter. His most memorable night in a Benfica shirt came in the Champions League round of sixteen against Ajax in February 2022, when he came off the bench to score and revealed a shirt bearing the Ukrainian coat of arms in response to Russia's invasion of his country.

He was not central to Roger Schmidt's plans for 2022/23, and on 29 August 2022 Benfica sold him to Club Brugge on a four-year deal for 16 million euros plus three million in add-ons. He has since played for Valencia, Lyon and Olympiacos.
