Young player was reassessed this Sunday and will be out for at least three months
Substituted in the 30th minute of the Benfica–Flamengo match due to injury, Jaden Umeh has seen the worst-case scenario confirmed. According to what we were able to determine, the winger, just 18 years old, is dealing with a serious muscle injury to his right thigh — a situation that will keep him off the pitch for around three months.
The physical problem arose after a very hard challenge from Emerson Royal near the sideline. Although he got back up and lasted a few more minutes on the field, the young player was ultimately replaced by Prestianni right after the hydration break. The examinations carried out this Sunday went on to reveal the extent of the injury.
At just 18 years old, Umeh had been a bet of Marco Silva's this pre-season, at a time when the manager still couldn't count on Andreas Schjelderup (the Norwegian was at the World Cup until this Saturday).
Having arrived at Benfica in 2024, the Irishman — he has two senior caps for his country — has already been crowned national champion at junior and youth levels.
