Sporting Clube de Espinho was founded on 11 November 1914 in the coastal town of Espinho, Aveiro district, and was a founder member of the Aveiro football association in 1924. Nicknamed the Tigers, it plays in black and white stripes.

The club reached a Taca de Portugal semi-final as early as 1924-25 and had spells in the Primeira Liga, but has spent recent decades in the lower and district divisions. It is a broad multi-sport club, best known outside football for volleyball.
