PSV Eindhoven was founded on 31 August 1913 as Philips Sport Vereniging, the sports club of the Philips electronics company, and remains closely identified with the southern Dutch city of Eindhoven. It plays at the Philips Stadion, which seats about 35,000.

One of the traditional big three of Dutch football alongside Ajax and Feyenoord, PSV has gathered more than twenty-five Eredivisie championships, along with numerous KNVB Cups and a record number of Johan Cruyff Shield wins. The club lifted the UEFA Cup in 1978 and completed a remarkable treble in 1988, adding the European Cup in Stuttgart to the domestic league and cup double.

Long a springboard for international stars, the red and white side continues to compete in the Eredivisie and in European competition.
