Panathinaikos was founded in Athens on 3 February 1908 and plays in the Super League Greece, having never been relegated from the Greek top flight. The club has won 20 Greek Championships and 20 Greek Cups, and remains the only Greek side to reach a European Cup final, losing to Ajax in 1971. In 2023-24 it competed in the UEFA Europa League group stage, finishing fourth in Group F behind Villarreal, Rennes and Maccabi Haifa.
