Ginásio Clube Figueirense was founded on 1 January 1895 in Figueira da Foz, Coimbra district, and is one of the oldest sports clubs in Portugal, active across around twelve disciplines. The club gave up competitive football in the early 1970s and returned to youth football through a partnership in 2013-14. It was decorated with the Ordem Militar de Cristo in 1944 and admitted to the Ordem do Mérito in 1995.
