Description
Marítimo's ground sits by the sea in Funchal, on the island of Madeira, and was officially opened in May 1957. Supporters know it as the Caldeirão, the cauldron, a nickname earned by the noise and by how awkward the trip has traditionally been for mainland visitors.
The stadium was rebuilt in stages between 2009 and 2016 at a cost of roughly 46.5 million euros, leaving a modern all-seater of around 10,600 places. In earlier decades it was shared with the island's other clubs, Nacional and União, and it has occasionally hosted the Portugal national team.
