Description
Leiria's municipal stadium, home to União de Leiria and an occasional venue for the Portugal national team. The original ground dates from 1958, but it was almost entirely rebuilt on the same site for UEFA Euro 2004 to a design by Tomás Taveira, reopening on 19 November 2003 at a cost of over 80 million euros.
Taveira's version is famous for its wavy, continuous tiers, randomly scattered multicoloured seats and a roof that appears to float. It holds 23,888 seats plus provisional benching, and its record crowd of 29,160 came for Croatia against France at Euro 2004. Storm Kristin caused severe roof and structural damage in January 2026.
