Description
The national showpiece ground of the Netherlands and home of AFC Ajax, built in Amsterdam-Zuidoost between 1993 and 1996 and opened on 14 August 1996. It was the first major European stadium with a retractable roof over a natural pitch.
Known as the Amsterdam ArenA until it was renamed for the 2018-19 season in memory of Johan Cruyff, it hosted the 1998 Champions League final, matches at Euro 2000 and Euro 2020, and the 2013 Europa League final. A long exterior redevelopment completed around 2020 reshaped the facade from concave to convex. Capacity for football is now roughly 55,900.
