<p>The ground was built inside the earthworks of the old Zentralstadion, which opened in 1956 with room for 100,000 spectators and was for a time one of the largest stadiums in Europe. The new arena opened in 2004 and was the only venue in the former East Germany used at the 2006 World Cup.</p><p>RB Leipzig moved in during 2010 and the naming rights passed to Red Bull on 25 March 2010. Capacity for league matches is 47,800.</p><p>The approach across the old embankment and over footbridges into the bowl remains one of the more unusual arrivals in German football.</p>
