Opened in May 2005 in the Fröttmaning district on Munich's northern edge, the Allianz Arena replaced the Olympiastadion as the home of Bayern Munich. Its shell of 2,760 inflated ETFE cushions can be lit in changing colours, usually red for Bayern, and is visible from far along the A9 motorway.

The steep three-tier bowl holds 75,024 for Bundesliga matches, including a large standing terrace in the south end; for UEFA competitions the terracing is seated and the figure drops to about 70,000. TSV 1860 Munich were co-tenants until 2017, leaving Bayern as the sole resident club.
