André Gomes, not to be confused with the Portugal midfielder of the same name, joined Benfica's academy in 2016 from a local club in his native Ponte de Lima and signed his first professional contract in December 2020. As a teenager he played the full 90 minutes of Benfica's 6-0 win in the 2021/22 UEFA Youth League final.

He is a left-footed goalkeeper, unusual among his peers in his distribution side.

In 2024/25 he was the third-choice keeper in the senior squad behind Anatoliy Trubin and Samuel Soares, and the first choice for Benfica B. He made 31 appearances for the B team in Liga Portugal 2 and one for the first team, in the Taça de Portugal. He went out on loan to Alverca for the following campaign.

He has represented Portugal at youth level up to under-21 but has not been capped by the senior side.
