Born in Funchal, Henrique Araújo took his first steps in football at local Madeira side Andorinha before joining Marítimo's academy, and at 16 he was signed by Benfica following a trial period that took him to the club's academy on the outskirts of Lisbon.

The centre-forward announced himself with a hat-trick in the 2021/22 UEFA Youth League final, a 6-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg that crowned Benfica champions of Europe at youth level. He had already made his first-team debut in February 2022, and later signed a contract extension carrying a 100 million euro release clause.

Seeking regular minutes, Araújo spent successive loan spells at Watford in England and then at Famalicão and Arouca in the Primeira Liga, before returning to the Benfica squad.

His honours include the UEFA Youth League, the Primeira Liga title and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira. A prolific youth international, he has represented Portugal at every level up to the Under-21s, where he has been among the side's leading scorers.
