F.C. Copenhagen was created on 1 July 1992 through a merger of two historic clubs from the Danish capital, Kjøbenhavns Boldklub, founded in 1876, and Boldklubben 1903. The club is based in the Østerbro district and owns Parken, the national stadium, which holds around 38,000 spectators.

Despite its short history, FCK is the most successful club in the Danish game, with a record number of Superliga championships and Danish Cups. It is also the country's strongest performer in Europe, having reached the Champions League group stage on several occasions and progressed to the knockout rounds.

Playing in predominantly white shirts with blue detailing, a nod to the colours of its founding clubs, the team is nicknamed Løverne, the Lions, and contests a heated derby with Brøndby IF.
