About the Club
Newcastle United Football Club was formed in 1892 through the merger of Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End, and has played at St James' Park in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne throughout its existence, in a ground now holding around 52,000. Its black and white striped shirts gave the club the nickname the Magpies.
Newcastle's four league championships were all won before the First World War, and it has claimed six FA Cups, the last in 1955, plus the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969. A long trophy drought ended in 2025 with victory in the EFL Cup, the club's first major domestic honour in seventy years. Since the 2021 takeover by a Saudi-led consortium the club has returned to European competition, and it plays in the Premier League.
