Team Information
About the Club
FC St. Gallen 1879 is a Swiss club from the eastern city of St. Gallen, founded on 19 April 1879 after an invitation was published in the local newspaper. It is the oldest surviving football club in Switzerland and is generally regarded as the oldest in continental Europe, a heritage reflected in the 1879 carried in its official name. The club plays in green and white and is nicknamed the Espen. It won the Swiss championship in 1904 and again in 2000, and has lifted the Swiss Cup on several occasions, including in 1969. Since 2008 home matches have been played at a modern arena in the Winkeln district of the city, replacing the long-serving Espenmoos ground. The team competes in the Swiss Super League and is known for one of the most vocal supporter followings in the country.
